Walk connection to the center of the city is a bit dangerous as you have to cross a big road and there are no traffic lights nearby. An underpass would make wonders!

Not satisfied with the room cleanliness and the hotel service. I check in at 2.30pm(14jun), I have to make so many calls until to the managers in order to get the room service person to come in and clean up the room. At 4.45pm only the room service came to clean up the room. This really make me unhappy as this was my first time to mahkota hotel and it turn to be very sour. Also the bathroom tab had some problem. Rather then only getting customer in, they should do a proper check and alot of maintenance job need to done for the rooms. Hope they can make better improvement in the weak areas.

We enjoyed our at at the Mahkota Hotel. Our initial suite had mould in the corner of the main bedroom, though, and had a strong mildew odour so we immediately went down to the reception desk to see if we could be moved as we did not want to be inhaling mould spores while we slept. I am prone to upper respiratory infections, i.e. bronchitis, and did not want to take this chance. The hotel was very accomodating and moved us right away.
Our overall impression was that the hotel needs to undergo considerable renovations. Although comfortable, the rooms we saw and stayed in were definitely worn and aged. We found it interesting that there was a stove in the suite along with a note that you were absolutely not to do any cooking!!! Very strange. Also, the living room only had enough seating for three guests even though the two double beds could accomodate four. It was a good thing our daughter was not with us! We were a bit taken aback to read that you had more tv channels and different ones depending on how expensive your room was!! We have never seen this anywhere before in all our travels!! Also, only two blocks had internet access. This was certainly not made very clear on the hotel's web-site.

The breakfast buffet was pleasant but very disorganized. We were told by the front desk staff to go to a certain restaurant for our breakfast because the hotel was full and this was an overflow option, but when we went there in the morning we were redirected to the main cafe just off the main lobby. Very confusing and this happended every morning despite what was indicated on our breakfast coupons.
We liked the fact that the hotel had ironing roooms where you could do your own ironing (since the rooms themsleves did not have this - again this is what we are sued to!!) but the ironing borad covers were all worn, had holes in them and had stains on them!!
We thought (when we read on-line) that it was neat that the hotel had its own mini golf, but it really was pathetic. A few greens with a hole at the end. Just goes to show that the written word does not necessarily tell you everything!!! If hotel guests will destroy ironing board covers, though, just imagine what they could do to a mini golf course! Sad but true.
It was handy that the hotel had its own little store right on the property, but no comparison to the one in th Holiday Inn across the street!! It was also handy that the hotel was across a major highway from a mall, but trying to get across that main highway everyday was a feat in itself. They should consider building a pedestrian crossover walking bridge there. How many guests have been injured or killed trying to cross that highway???
We were disappointed that the hotel did not have any arranged tours or even a person we could talk to about arranging our own. The hotel in penang had its own little tour office right in the main lobby. Very convenient! We thought since the hotel was selling tickets to the night safari at the zoo that they would at least have the transportation arranged, as well. Not the case at all!
The elevators in the hotel were scary!!! You had to literaly run out of them or you risked having the doors close on you!!! The doors to the main lobby were the opposite and took forever to open!! They need to do some serious maintenance on the elevator doors before someone gets hurt!!
It was nice that the hotel arranged fireworks and a balloon drop on New Years Eve, but the area in front of the main doors certainly is not enough space to accomodate the number of guests in a hotel of that size. Perhaps they should consider doing the fireworks by the pool and the balloon drop in the main lobby. I am an audiologist and the music was way too loud. I can only imagine how many people woke up with temporary threshold shifts in their hearing. Some probably experienced permanent shifts. We went back to our room for a while and then returned just before midnight. we could not handle the unbearably loud music.
